All i can say my friend is that never loose hope!
I have a cousin who was in a boat accident in 1995.
He was proudly serving in the Army and was on a boat exercise in Tin Can Bay.
He was traveling in one of those inflatable zodiacs and it was hit my another boat. He died instantly but was revived by a medic. He was flown to Brisbane and we received a phone call from a family member saying that his life support was to be turned off in 48-72 hours and to get down to Brisbane to say goodbye. His brain had been severely damaged and if he was to survive he would never walk, talk or ever even be able to feed himself.
Anyway to get to my point he was taken to Westmead in Sydney to be closer to home after about 6 months in Brisbane, he spent another 12 months in the brain injury unit there.
12 years later and can walk, talk and communicate with no problems.
You can tell he is slow but if you had of seen what he went through you would be amazed that he turned out so well.
So never give up and expect the unexpected.
The human body is an amazing machine and it works in weird ways.
I don't know anything about spinal injuries but i do know that i watched my cousin recover when he was not supposed to.
From my family to his, Stay strong never give up
My grandmother recently had a similar fracture. she as lucky because although the vertebrae were broken, nothing touched the spinal cord. The fact that dispite losing the feeling in 3 limbs- he still has one- that means that any damage done to the spinal cord

Brisbane spinal unit is the best in Qld- if theres anything that can be done- it will happen there.

unfortunately waiting is really the only thing that can be done in these situations... (atleast until stem cell research is allowed)

I wish you, your friend, your friends family and your friends brother the best of luck
Be guided by the doctors in the spinal unit, as they see your friend every day, and have a clear medical history of him and his injuries.

I do know it can take a few weeks, for the doctors to able give anyone a probability of his outcome. I guess it is to do with the swelling etc.

I wish him well, and hope the out come for all concerned is a good one.
