The va should help you with this problem but no doubt you will be on meds for the rest of your life but yet controlled.
Depends on the type of injury & your body built, spinal canal can vary in dimentions & accordingly the effect will be different on each person e.g. someone may had the same injury without any symptoms becasue they were born with a wide spinal canal. In your case, you were borne with a narrow one & a minimal compression may cause sever symptoms for you. Now that is irreversible and expected to increase with aging process, unless you decide to have a corrective surgery if its offered by a spinal surgeon after a proper evaluation "mainly MRI imaging". I recommend that you consult your physician soon as it may become more life disabling illness.
Is there a pain clinic near you? My father had something similar and finally after constant pain and losing weight he went on his own to a pain clinic and paid for it out of his pocket, as the regular insurance wouldn't pay and the doctor said to live with it. He said it was the best money he ever spent. It involved injections for a few weeks, but gave him a new life.
