Cervical spinal surgery?
if you have had it please give me your expeirience.. i am due to enjoy it in count down 3 days and i am terrified.
please help
Answers: I have this procedure in my neck in 2002. They took the bone from my right hip because I be a smoker and a bone from the bank would not have fused as well. Now, six years next, I have terrible pain surrounded by the muscles going from my neck to right shoulder. I am told they were "distended" because of the way my shoulders hasd to be clamped down. Also, I be not aware they would go through the front instead of the back and I was shocked when I woke up next to a huge slash on my throat. I had a friend who had the bond taken from the back of his hip (yes, his butt) and he have just assumed it would be from the front. He is horribly scarred. I have not have any problem from the bone removal site, but my neck is not a bit better than before. Dr's perform this surgery routinely because it is a fast 15K for them. I wish I had never had it done. I choice I had gotten more than one surgical opinion. Please do. There were so several things I was not told just because I did not know to ask.
I had cervical surgery to remove a osteophyte (bone growth) inside the vertebrae pressing against the spinal cord itself.
They go in from the front of my neck but in an nouns where there is usually a line anyway so its not notice until I get my dark tan contained by summer so much. Then I had a bone graft from the bone bank.
I am glad they did the graft from there because so tons have trouble later on from the hip where they own donated their own bone plus that just makes another incision to worry over.
After the surgery I wore a soft d¨Ścolletage collar and was back to work within 4 1/2 weeks. Pain down into arms be gone, didn't have to live on any after surgery pain meds, and recovery be smooth. I smoked at that time so that did not affect the graft or surgery in any way.
Good luck, and please, relax and think of how much better you will have a feeling after you recover from it all.
dr wanted to do thisd to me 15 years ago.
research qualified me success rate maybe 20%
did chriopractic & physical therapy to lighten it somewhat
took meds but not drs won't prescribe meds much, or at least not what will work for me.
i no longer can get up, eat, shower, dress, and scarcely drive without some help
when on my meds, i could work, take caution of home & family, my farm animals, and do everything but lift 100 pounds
presently i'm lucky if i can pick up my purse.
it sux & i want my meds. would rather be addicted for whatever time i have disappeared than miserable for longer...
Yeah I had 2 cervical spine fusions, bone graft and even a plate and 4 rods I think. don't know exactly what you are having done but if you donate a few details I can pretty well tell you wht to expect. And maybe a few tips on dealing beside being in the brace and so. Or you can e-mail me and I'll get put money on with you. If you are having the bone graft I'll tell you right up front contained by is far better to let then take it out of your hip than it is to concord with the anti rejection deal.
It's pretty common operation nowdays depending on what is wrong. So you are probably worrying 'will I rouse up'? LOL I know I sure did the first time!! And you will wake up. So don't worry about that.
gag: t just means you will probably have to give somebody a lift some kind of anti-rejection medicine for awhile.
One thing you are going to want to ask your doc for is an Alpine brace. You ae going to be surrounded by it for about 6 weeks and the Alpine makes life a integral lot easier. And make sure you have some baby powder to put within it since your neck will sweat in it.
You might just want to transport me a e-mail and I will get back to you. There are a few things like the plate that I can narrate you about so you won't worry about it. I know I desire I had ask a lot more questions up to that time I had it the first time. I learned a lot that help me the second time. I know when the doctor explained to me what he was going to do my butt came about a foot rotten the bed. "you're going to cut my throat and do what!" But it's not as bad as it sounds
Good luck
I have 4 level disk removed beside bone graft and plate installed complications can and do occur example of what i went through most major be skeletal and muscle cramping or locking very painfully also swelling blocking airway I think any one going for Surgery should ask as several questions as possible and get other doctor opinion. Most crucial will be your doctor's recovery plan. Communicate to the doctor keep records of what you make conversation about so you can stay focused. I hope this helps and good luck. Well, it would support if we knew what kind of surgery...you know, what it was for? Is it for a herniated disk, or something more serious, close to a tumor? Makes a big difference on how scared you should be. I have ex. in this, so i'll check support to see if you've updated.
