Answers:    I had Appendicitis within 2006 and I didn't have a spinal tap. I went to the ER because I be having constant pain for 10+ hours. The doctores didn't know what was cause the pain so they took blood, and did a CT scan of my abdomen, which is where they discovered that my appendix be inflamed. Then they did emergency surgery to remove it. No spinal tap.
Yes, spinal taps are very bloody. Not only are they painful, you have to be completely still for several hours following the procedure due to the unsystematic of getting a "spinal headache"...this is when the spinal fluid "leaks" out of the place where the tap was done and it give people SEVERE headache.

The good news is that appendicitis is NOT diagnosed via a spinal stroke. Usually, they will take a blood sample to check different counts, particularly the white blood cell.that signals infection. From there, it is usually diagnosed by symptoms. Pain in the lower right abdominal quadrant, fever, nausea..

Appendicitis happen when the opening to the appendix is blocked and the immune system reacts (infection). See the below referenced article for in depth info.

Best of luck to your friends.
Appendicitis occur when the appendix becomes blocked, often by stool, a foreign body, or cancer. Blockage may also occur from infection, since the appendix swells within response to any infection in the body. When they actually do the spinal tap, you may quality pressure and odd sensations, but it won't hurt. I highly doubt you would need a spinal thump for appendictis. You do not need a spinal tap for appendicitis. Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix. The way the appendix is positioned allows germs to get trapped and inflames the appendix. Appendicitis is most common during the adolescent stage.
