Answers: The best thing to do is to talk to your family doctor.
Then, make conversation to at least two more REPUTABLE surgeons (who do not work in the same facility) to gain more than one opinion.
Make a list of ALL the questions that come through your skipper and ask them all (even if you think some of the question are stupid)! A angelic surgeon will always understand and will never ridicule you for asking soo many question when it comes to something as important as spinal fusion.
Do reasearch on reputed websites, preferably national health websites because they have alot to lose if they don't post the citation of their information.
Finally, get MULTIPLE testamonies form people who have gone through the procedure because the experience of one may differ from yours.
Once you hold accumulated all of that information, you will be able to run an educated decision!
Rather than rely on this place... why not ask for a referral to a doctor for a 2nd opinion? Or, ask for referral to people who have had this procedure so you can discuss to them. Hospitals have patient educators whose opportunity it is to help people find resources about their conditions, etc. They should also hold contacts to support groups. There are support groups for EVERYTHING. Find a pain management group and / or a back torment group. Explore your options and gather information. I don't think asking citizens in this wasteland will help you engender a decision that will be truly informed. I would suggest that you have visit a chiropractor. I be in the exact same accident. Get the chiro to take X-rays and do the adjustment. Work with a massage therapist as very well for muscle strain and imbalance. Surgery should be your absolute last remedy!
I am fine and it has been 6 months and I am doing much better. Good luck and I hope you feel better!
I have one 5 years ago C5-6. It eased the pain a little but not completely. I am still on meds. All surgery is a crap shoot, you enjoy to way the odds and do whats right for you. You dhould get a second feelings from another doctor and if he says you should get one aswel you should find the best chiroprractor you can
If you decide to budge for it, ask around for the best back doctor in town.
