Had a spinal block for c-section, but is this usual?
i had a spinal block the 11'th of june for a c-section. and lately ive ben feeling these sensations in my wager on and spine, not painfull, just strange sensations kind of tingly here and there. i needed to know if this has happened to anyone else? and is this a normal side effect? if so, how long does it usually end? :) thanks.
Answers: you should consult with your doctor. Generally with the spinal block a tiny puncture is made when the hypodermic is placed within the fluid-filled space surrounding the spinal cord. This creates a passage for the spinal fluid to leak out, varying the fluid pressure around the brain and spinal cord. If enough of the fluid leaks out, a spinal headache may develop; or you can get the tingling and numbing notion. Generally this feelign starts about 5 days after the procedure; bed rest will sometimes help as the feeling is usually worse when you are adjectives.
Increase your fluid intake (A LOT) and spend more time laying down (i know that's hard with a tot but try to stay off your feet) see if that helps for the next 24-48 hours. If not, really check surrounded by with your doctor; the block could have punctured the spinal column dura and more aggressive measures might be in writ to get rid of this (this isn't life threatening but it sure is a pain of extraordinary proportions); Be ware that you could finishing up with a headache that feels like your herald is about to explode and if that happens, they will want you back contained by the hospital for treatment.
You have to give the body a chance to stamp the puncture in the spinal column (think if it as needing a chance to scab over) and that's more or less how long this will last assuming no major complications (the headache from hell).

I had a spinal block beside my first child Jan of 1992. I did have a tingling odd sensation for a couple of weeks. You should however discuss this with your doctor when you travel for your check-up. If you have the following difficulties report it immediatley- Numbness in lower extremeties, difficulty walking, extreme nausea, stiff neck, soaring grade fever Yes, I felt like peas in a pod thing. And of course, you should discuss it with your doctor as the concern is that it is leaky and did not alleviate properly. So, just discuss it and if you get the symptoms listed contained by another answer...the numbness, headache etc... go to the E.R. do not wait for an appt. I have to voice though that the initial tingling did go away but several years later...I still get numbness within the site area and sometimes back pain. Which is purely one of the after affects that can happen. Nothing severely punishing just annoying. Hopefully it will just make well right up for you.
im a mother of 7 and had my first c-section with my last daughter and yes you perceive a tingling sensation .but it doesnt hurt ,also realize it was a needle any injection site will be uncomfortable for a jiffy dont worry its normal , but if it becomes bothersome consult your physician. GOOD LUCK!! and congrats on the clean baby ! I agreed with the other two answers, but my doctor told me that for some people, as they take older, there might be some stiffness that will occur at the injection site.
