I am have a spinal fusion of the collar this July. I am wondering if any of you own have this done?

Is it painful? How much did you have to pay near you your insurance, if any?

Answers:    I had a spinal fusion done on my back (base of neck to the tail bone) two 9" titanium rods screwed in- and yes it did hurt
at first it you might perceive kind of "heavy" at least that's how I felt
It almost feel as if someone crushed all my bones and just threw them back contained by my body without assembling them back together. Your new friend will be morphine :)
but consequently after about a year you get used to it- and there is distinctly limited mobility- like i can't bend/arch my back at adjectives and I'm sure with your neck tilting might be limited.
As for paying that's something you enjoy to talk to about with your insurance company- depends on what style of coverage you have- the company- and if they even cover that type of treatment
Good luck with the surgery!
You need to call your insurance company and ask how much you are going to be responsible for. My Mom have 3 vertebrae fussed 10 years ago. She heals slowly it took her a good 6 months before she feel good. She is now great 10 years later. Just manufacture sure you have a good surgeon. She interviewed 10 surgeons before she picked the one she go with.

If I were you I wouldn't. Haven't had it done but they needed to do on my wife after a wreck. Well we know three people who had it done and all three completed up on disability. My wife's neck rehabbed, we just had to be consistent. it's not scratchy during the operation, as you are under general anesthetic. but afterwards it will be painful for a while. i don't know more or less the insurance though, sorry.
the immediate results appear good - however there is some dearth of motion.

i do not know what the long term results are however - i had a bulging disk in my lower posterior and it fused on its own over the yrs.
Do Not have IT

yOU WILL LOSE THE MOVEMENT IN THE NECK

Why are you having it ?
