If you own a spinal done for 'female' surgery, do you still hold to lay on your backbone for 24 hours afterwards?
I had one done about 25-26 years ago and I remember the nurses telling me that I have to lay flat for an entire 24 hours or I'd get a massive migraine headache.
Is this still the case?
Answers: No. They used to have you lay flat for 24 hours because they thought that would relieve prevent the post spinal headache. They discovered position actually didn't have any effect on gettting one, it had to do more near the patient's fluid levels. Once you recover from the effects of the anesthesia, they simply push more fluids now- orally and intravenously. If you develop a spinal headache, they can hand over pain medications to help. If it's severe plenty, they do a "blood patch", which the other person basically described- to replace the lost fluid in the spinal cord temporarily. That's not routinely done, solitary if it's necessary. The nurses watch you carefully the first daytime, of course- to make sure you are steady on your feet and to encourage you to drink, but otherwise you don't come to an end up flat for a day, no.
