No. An epidural is unanimously only used during labour, as it can be topped up and therefore last as long as it is needed to.
A spinal block works in pretty much the same way, but it is used for a field of operations (knee replacements etc), but is given in one dose and only last a certain amount of time.
Surgeons generally know how long an operation will last, but childbirth can be any very quick, a few hours or very prolonged (as i economically know!), so the two anaesthetics are used differently. xx
i don't think so all i know is that an epidural is better
