Is it possible to fix an awkward spinal curve that be cause by poor posture?
When I stand up straight my chest sticks out and there is a huge curve in my spine. This is due mostly to excessive computer use without proper ergonomic support. Is it possible to correct this? If so, how?
Answers: You don't state how frail you are and this is going to affect the outcome of this answer. If you are young and by that you are still growing the chances for a good correction are greater. The first entry that is going to have to be done is to get you set up surrounded by a proper ergonomic position. The chair that is used should be on wheels, swivel, arms that are adjustable, an adjustable bench, high back with a lumbar support. The monitor should be at eye horizontal. I would next suggest that you see a physical therapist who would help you next to the postural issues. What has happened to you is called adaptive change where the muscles have either lengthened or shortened to accommodate what you are consistantly doing. To correct this is going to lift some time. An exercise that should help in this is where you sit on a bench with your feet flat on the floor. There should be a slight curve in the lower support. Slowly bring the shoulders back towards each other as if squeezing the shoulder blades together. Hold that position and then try to bring the shoulder blades down towards your waist. Do that a few times respectively hour and that should help you but for the extensive program that will be needed you should see a therapist. Doing it now will collect you from a lot of problems later in existence.
When I was younger around 16, every one would comment on my hunchback... I stopped sleeping with a pillow and 2 years later my final is like normal people. There are manuevars you can do to straighten your vertebrae but it's hard to describe online. I found a site that may be able to give you some tips on how to fix it.
