Is it side effect of epidural/spinal anesthesia?

My mother is recovering from a GYN surgery she had done about 1 month ago with epidural (or spinal) anesthesia. She is complaining of numbness on her legs from the knees down.
A doctor have told her long ago that the numbness is normal and it stays for about 3 years.
True or false?
Only serious and educated answers please.
Thank you!

Answers:    There are several possible reasons for the numbness.

Most likely is that she had chutzpah compression from the stirrups used to position her for the surgery. She should be evaluated by a neurologist.

It's NOT normal, and it's probably not from the anesthetic. read this:

Best of luck to her!
Your mom needs a second medical opinion. Done properly, the injected medication into the epidural space should not closing more than 12 hours at most. I've had both and I have never had any problems. I enjoy also never heard of the side effects lasting that long. Just to be on the safe side, she may want to see another doctor. It sounds close to they may have hit a nerve in her spine.
i've have 2 epidurals one was perfect and the other was rotten to one side so only half of my body was numb but i never have any side effects after i left the hospital. you probably need to go posterior into the doc. she could have some spinal damage or there could be another issue that you aren't aware of and those things can grasp pretty scary! most hospital have a number that you can call and speak to a nurse or you could purely try calling a er and ask anyone there for advice whether you should come in or not. i'm sure they'd know

well brought-up luck
