Is losing the function of any side of your body everyday after have surgery for spinal stenosis?

My mother just had surgery for her condition called spinal stenosis on wednesday Aug 13, 2008. I don't expect her to be 100% ok but i didn't expect her to lose function of her gone arm and her left leg. she can move it a little but she doesn't know if she's moving it unless she is looking at her arm. is that normal? and but for what can she do to fix that problem.? the doctors say that she dint need any physical therapy but I'm not sure if they are right. Please oblige because i am really worried about her, and i really don't want her to be stuck like this forever.

Answers:    Was this for stenosis of the neck or hindmost? If for the neck, the symptoms you describe can certainly be a side effect from swelling from the surgery.

If it was for the backbone, there is no reason her arm should be weak unless a post-operative stroke occur, etc.

You need more answers from her physician and surgeon.
