Answers: Here's some links to patient information roughly speaking lumbar punctures. Your husband should read them all. Wasn't he told anything or given any written info?

i don't know how long it will thieve for test results. It depends on whether they do it on site, or send out.
Go to GOOGLE and type in "spinal tap"
You will go and get all the info you need, from a reputable source instead of listening to someone on this site. Even if it is someone who have HAD one, each person's experience will be different. The GOOGLE site will give you copious different things he MAY experience, as well explain the entire procedure to both of you.
Go into it with a positive attitude, knowing that this test will, hopefully, administer you the answers you need so badly, no matter what the question paper consists of.
You will be in my prayers, and in the prayers of some of the others reading this.

I had to find one done a year ago to make positive of my Multiple sclerosis.
I remembered it lasted about 30-45 min. Then I have to lay there for anothe 20-30 to see if the puncture sealed up ok.
Im not going to lie, it be very, very painful. But tremendously beneficial.
Will I get another one done?..No.
Good luck!
all I got to read out is, get a specialist my friend got a spinal tap she said that the doctors missed it like 4 when they called a specialist in the next morning he go it on his first try. sucked for her I know that they hurt quite a bit, my cousin had a couple done. But I don't meditate the results take that long to get back.
