People lower than 30 that own have a spinal fusion/discectomy?
i'm 24/m and i've had two doctors recommend spinal fusion at L3/L4, one neuro, one orthopedic. i have thoracic spine issues, but this is only more or less the lumbar issues-
the reason being that disc is herniated and in advanced stages of degeneration and is immediately casuing radicular pain. i understand it may not do much for pain, but it's really becoming an issues next to my foot going numb and the pain in my legs. i've already had epidural injections, and i'm going to be getting some facet shared injection once i schedule them.
i wan't to hear from younger people that have have a fusion/discectomy and what kind of results you have had next to the surgery
Answers: I'm not as young as you but I did have my first fusion surgery at 42 and I was contained by great physical shape.
It took me about 2 weeks to start getting around pretty good and I was out of the brace within 6 weeks. My injury was in in two locations so I didn't hold my second operation until I was 50.
I am now 56 and still recovering the best I can. I am in a dull pain management program and have been on SSDI since 1 month after my second operation
I have the surgery in 1999 at age 30. I had L-4-5 and L-5,S-1 done. Other than being laid up for a bit after the surgery, I am GREAT, and be immediately out of pain when I woke up from the anesthesia, have hugely little physical limitation. I had 12 epidural injections prior to the surgery and was within unbelieveable pain. Do the surgery, it is worth it. By the time I decided to get it done, I could almost not walk anymore. An ortho did my surgery. I take NO pain medication what so ever and a particularly small amount of an anti-inflammatory ( mainly for the Ankylosing Spondylitis)
I suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis...
My boyfriend is 34 and considered young for this surgery as well. He did enjoy the fusion / diskectomy done in late dec and is still recovering. it did help the numbness, but he's be saying it has been coming and going again.
He say if he has to do more, he will, so I don't think it went adjectives that badly for him.
Ugh... My mom needs to get Spinal Fusion, I in recent times hate the thought of Surgery.. Good Luck.. I wish you the best..
Sudden tingling/numbness below the rubbish. Could this be from a spinal slap?
