RSD/CRPS treatment? Spinal cord stimulator?
I had a stellate ganglion block for burning and constant pain on my right side of neck and shoulder. I want to know what a creature needs to go through before they are allowed to hold a Spinal cord stimulator. I've already been on narcotics such as the fentanyl patch and roxicodone and got off them to see how I would do. I didn't realize I have the burning sensation until two days after coming home after being weaned off the narcotics. The injection worked and for the first time in 6 years I be pain free up until about a week later. I see my headache dr. tomorrow. I'm asking for another injection no matter what. Any advice on what I should say and if I should ask to see a dr. that does spinal cord stimulation? Does a soul have to go through other tests close to psychological evaluation in order to have a SCS? My dr. solely does injections. Thanks.
Answers: I was diagnosed with RSD in August of 2007 contained by my right knee (now it's spread to my entire leg).
I have been on Narcotics and enjoy had one sympathetic nerve block. I'm so glad you got nouns from your injection! I had 4 hours of relief and that was amazing! Just to be strain free for a while. To feel normal again and now it's possible. After the injection didn't work; I be offered the option of the SCS at my next appointment with my headache dr. You do not have to go through any other tests that I know of. I disappointingly wasn't able to get the SCS b/c I have a tumor condition that I own to get regular MRIs for and you cant have MRI with a SCS. Definitely ask for another injection! If something help; pursue it. Just ask your doctor what is outlook on the SCS is and if he knows a doctor that he trusts that can offer that service. Get a list of question and concerns you have to go over with the clean doctor. You will go through a trial SCS that they just temporarily implant the lead and the battery pack is external. To see if it does help. That will last something like 7-10 days. If you want some help with the burning; I get a cream that have ketamine, lydocaine, ketophroen and gabapentin in it. It is expensive but really helps. Good Luck and I hope you find relief!
Usually most insurance companies require 3 spoilt treatments before they will cover a spinal cord stimulator. I'd certainly go ahead and communicate to your doctor about your interest in the SCS, and since your doctor does injections I'm sure that they've dealt next to referring people to a doctor that does spinal cord simulators. You are required to have and pass psychological evaluation past you can even have the SCS trial or implant. Just talk to your doctor give or take a few your interest in a spinal cord stimulator, I'm sure that the doctor will understand and know what to do. Good luck! You cannot be too careful when individuals are 'messing' with your spinal
cord, remember what the purpose of your spinal cord is, and what
all those nerves do. Proceed with circumspection, see a neurologist for any of this. Start with a good MD, and get a referral. If you acquire damage
to your spinal cord, sometimes it cannot be reversed. Have you had
a neurologist tell you what is cause the constant burning and
pain, maybe it could be treated permanently instead of what you are
doing very soon. Oh. By the way, don't be using vibrators on your spinal
cord or your neck. It is not a good entity to do.
Yes, you do have to complete a psychological evaluation in order to hold a SCS.
