Spinal cord injury even c2 -c8?
i was in a car wreck on feb 23 i am paralyzed from the waist down. the doctors enunciate my injury is complete is it possible thta i will walk seeing that its early on. if someone knows please relief. thx so much
Answers: An MRI/CAT scan is not used to diagnose whether a SCI is complete or incomplete. "Complete" is not a physical description of the injury, it is a description of the symptoms. In other words, a "complete" SCI does not mean your spinal cord is completely severed. What it means is that you hold no function below the level of the injury.
The complete condition is not always permanent. Sometimes deeply of progress and return of function can be achieved (especially in the first 2 years post-injury). Doctors have told relations they would never walk many times before, and they own. So, yes, it is possible. To see maximum benefits, you need to get into a rigorous physical rehabilitation program.
Also, I'm assuming you mean t2-t5 smooth injury, as c8 doesn't exist (there's only 7 cervical vertebrae). Also if you had a complete SCI at the cervical level, you would be paralyzed from the collar down.
Hope the info helps. Also, check out http://sci.rutgers.edu for an awesome SCI forum.
Sorry. The Doctors have seen the MRI or CT Scan so if the injury is 'complete' doubt you will wander again. Best of Luck
