Spinal Headache - PLEASE HELP!?
I had an epidural during childbirth 6 days ago and developed an agonizing spinal headache afterward. The anaesthesiologist performed a painful spinal blood patch 2 days after that and it was supposed to take care of the agony. I am still in so much pain that I am not able to preserve my head up for more than about 20 minutes at time. This is EXTREMELY difficult as I am trying to take attention to detail of a newborn. Painkillers are not helping. Any similar experiences or suggestions? Maybe something homeopathic?
Answers: I had a bad headache after a spinal tap a few years ago and have a leak, so I know what you are talking about. They suggested doing a blood patch, but I contracted to wait. I drank oodles of gatorade and the doctors also told me to drink a lot of caffeine. Lie as flat as you can. The boredom can drive you crazy, and it will be even more difficult having a newborn to protection for, so see if you can get some home nursing--have your husband call the insurance and ask if they can cover it. Try not to get up. Lying flat and drinking loads of fluids is the best article. Don't take asprin or things like advil as that will affect the clotting. Call your doctor if it doesn't get better. It could possibly be from a subsidiary infection, but if you aren't lying flat and drinking LOTS of fluids, chances are that you need to do that to make it better.
I am so sorry that you are have this problem. I remember how painful it was---definitely not your typical headache. I hope you are getting some help with your babe-in-arms. If you don't have insurance, there may be some people at a church who could proposal you some assistance with helping you care for the baby and getting meal, etc..
You should not be having spinal headaches still. You need to see a doctor and enjoy apossible brain MRI to see what is going on. Don't wait, you need to take exactness of yourself so that you can take care of your baby. IS in attendance a family member that can help you out?
