Spinal Meningitis?

I work in law enforecment and I found out last hours of darkness that a drunk guy I brought in at one point had been infected beside spinal meningitis twice. I dont know the time frames, but one of the dispatchers talked to the mans father and he said that he could catch it again. My concern is, is what the probability that I could lock in the same thing from him as meningitis is contagious and can be fatal. Any time I made contact next to the guy, I was wearing rubber gloves and I never had any real close contact next to him other than walking with a hand beneath his arm to help him int o the jail, in which I be pretty much behind him for the most part. I was going to hail as a doctor today to see what he said, but I was hoping maybe someone could shed a bit of ight on the subject for me and if I should be concerned (I already am though). I read about meningitis already and i couldnt catch a definative answer on if I should be concerned or if I was exposed enough to get infected.

Answers:    You can't block it unless in contact with the bacteria or virus that cause it.
bacterial is usually spread by respiratory secretions (coughing or snogging) which is why it goes round university campuses so briskly.

What did he mean by 'he could catch it again'? Anyone can catch it.
General suggestion is that if you think you have been within contact with someone who has meningitis you contact your doc.
You are clearly concerned so maybe you should.

The biggest factor is time. If he be infected, it is extremely possible that you could have been aswell. Even if he did have it, here are stages wherein you do not get infected, just like the flu, smallpox. IF he in reality DID have it, you MAY have it; you were exposed satisfactory to get infected. You can't catch it unless in contact next to the bacteria or virus that causes it.

If you experience any of the symptoms of this illness, go to the ER immediatly.

The symptoms are:

Signs and symptoms
It's trouble-free to mistake the early signs and symptoms of meningitis for the flu. They may develop over a period of one or two days and typically include:

A high hallucination
Severe headache
Vomiting or nausea with headache
Confusion, or difficulty concentrating — in the very youthful, this may appear as inability to maintain eye contact
Seizures
Sleepiness or difficulty waking up
Stiff neck
Sensitivity to bedside light
Lack of interest in drinking and eating
Skin rash surrounded by some cases, such as in viral or meningococcal meningitis
Earlier signs and symptoms that may suggest a serious infection, although not necessarily meningitis, include leg pain, ice-cold hand and feet, and abnormally pale skin tone.

GekKO!
Go to the doctor, explain the incident, and keep watch on for signs. Now being in law enforcement, if suspect of a contagious condition, don't you have the authority to have that individual checked? You have be told of the possibility he might be contagious. But make sure you go see the doctor and consult him.
