Spinal Pain?
I was lifting something heavy at work and now I hold pain in my spine. I had to raise from under my legs actually, and it is not my lower back, it is my upper. It is also not nouns pain, it is at one direct spot in my upper spine. Did I just stretch it, or is this serious?
Answers: What feel like pain on your spine is likely only a pulled or strained muscle (or muscles) on either side of your spine.
Hurt at work, you should report it. You could have anything from a strained muscle to a bulging or herniated disc. Do not wait to report the injury. the best path is have a medical check up for sure.
Most commonly from lifting something you can strain a muscle VERY easy from poor body mechanics and it will hurt like in that is no tomorrow.
BUT it is possible that you ruptured a disc in your back. The only approach to tell is a MRI... I was in primary training and did a lift on a "casualty" who was probably a good 200 lbs and something popped contained by my back and immediatly I had hordendous back strain. The next day I could not get out of bed by myself or even grasp dressed myself. Finally after months of fighting with the doctors that it was NOT a pulled muscle they sent me for a MRI and I have 1 ruptured disc, 1 bulging disc, and loose bone fragments from my spine. I ended up having to have hindmost surgery.
SO with all that being said, my suggestion for you would to be, to hang about... I know it sounds horrible. But give it about a week and if it doesnt feel better, run to the doctor. Take 600mg of ibprofen 2-3 times a day (anti-inflammitory) and alternate between ice packs and a heat pad. If this doesnt help with contained by the week, then go to the doctor. It is possible though, for it to quit hurting and come back from time to time (if it is a disc). SO since you did it at work, you can probably record workman's comp and they will pay for you to see the doctor... good luck and hope this helped some.
Sounds close to you may have pulled a muscle. Use heat then rime, then heat again. Ibuprofen for pain. If it persist through tomorrow; see your Dr.
