Answers: I've had tap befour and yes it can show MS and other problems. They will place a needle in his spine and draw out fluid. There is very little anguish and he should have have some answers soon.
A spinal tap obtain a sample of cerebrospinal fluid, the which exists around your brain and spinal cord.
The doctor will have your boyfriend either sitting hunched over or surrounded by the fetal position on a bed. S/he will numb the skin of his low back. Feeling for bony landmarks, the doctor will then insert a syringe between two of the vertebra and draw out some fluid, which should be clear and mostly colorless. They do this pretty low on the back to avoid damaging the spinal cord.
They will then dispatch the fluid for whatever lab tests the doc has ordered.
