Tear contained by spinal disk?

I have been having misery in my lower back for a few months now. Sometimes the distress is unbearable and sometimes it is tolerable. I finally went to my doctor and she ordered an MRI. It showed that I have a small hole in one of my lower disks. She said that fluid may have leaked out cause damage to the surounding nerves. She wants me to go to a neurologist. My ask is has anyone out there had this same issue and did you find it nesessary to see a neurologist? Also does anyone know exactly what style of damage the fluid leaking causes?

I know I should enjoy asked her these questions but my mind went blank while I was within.
if its a back problem you better go cause that ciould be serious you could even eventually become paralyzed
