What is to be expected within rescue from SPINAL FUSION SUGERY?
Answers: I am 55-years old. I had lower spinal fusion performed when I be eighteen years old; 3rd, 4th, and 5th lower lumbar vertebre. They took bone from my hip to use as the fusion material. At that time it seemed I would never have a feeling relief from the pain of my lower back and legs, so the fusion be elected.
I was in the hospital for 2-1/2 months and in a body imprint for 6-/12 months. I would hope the procedure and time of recovery would be much less now, explicitly what you'll have to discuss with your doctor. It was a impressively painful recovery, but in my unusual situation it was all worth it.
I have presently lived all these years with that surgery, and I have have ABSOLUTELY NO problems. I still play fast pitch softball, I am now heavily involved with kung fu, and other physical events. I did not get involved in Kung Fu until just three years ago; I very soon live in China and thought it would be interesting.
But, the point being, I am very delighted and pleased that I had the surgery. I will agree with the other responded that surgery is a very serious ruling. You must ask questions, research, and weigh the advantages against the disadvantages.

I am having a spinal fusion on L5-S1 next month. It's a second resort after trying everything else.
From what I understand, you can expect to stay in the hospital for 2-3 nights. Immediately after surgery, you'll hold a pain pump in your IV that you can push (it's regulated) when you need for a while edge off. After IV is taken out, they start you on pain pills. You also will own a catheter for a day or two after surgery (they put it in after you're asleep). They will get you out of bed the subsequent day to get you walking. This helps to hold you from getting blood clots. You'll also do some deep breathing to help your lungs fight pnuemonia. You'll be surrounded by a brace 24/7 for about 2 weeks and after that, only when your walking or standing for up to 6 weeks. (Of course, this is what was told to me by my doctor...if you're have a more complicated procedure than me, your experience might be different.)
After you get home, you shouldn't bend at the waist to brush your teeth, pick anything up, etc. You might want to purchase a "grabber" at a medical supply store to pick things up with and a raise toilet seat (you can find these at CVS, Walgreens, etc.).
You should begin a walking regime and after a few weeks, they might want you to see a physical therapist.
If you don't similar to the looks of your scar after the stiches or staples are out, you can use Mederma. It helps make your mark look smoother.

Maybe not being able to pee on your own for a while,
wearing a back brace for a while.
Lots of Neurontion and dull pain meds.
wait that out and think before getting it because its a unalterable operation- it is a last resort to alleviate pain, but can cause some side effects, pains of its own i believe. probably you want to fully research this .
