Why would a dr do a spinal thump on a diabetic?
Answers: the answer is none, none more black.
For drug testing. its how they test for acid and other mind altering drugs approaching shrooms and stuff because they dont show up in a urine or folikel test. Spinal taps are done to facilitate diagnose any reasons why someone has headaches or other neurologic symptoms. If a diabetic have any of these symptoms then a doctor may want to do a spinal tap. It also helps diagnose meningitis or encephalitis. FYI Neurologic symptoms may include, dizziness, headache, blurring of vision (with negative eye problem),
Well, one of the obvious answers would be a partial amputation due to poor circulation, etc. But that would strike me as more of a nonspecific anesthesia type procedure.
So my guess would be some small procedure that might be painful to either correct a vascular deficiency or to bring in some tissue for testing.
For the same reasons he would do it to a non-diabetic. Here is a polite description of a spinal tap and why it's performed.

Spinal Taps are usually done if an infection like meningitis is suspected. Also some disorder like MS show specific bands that aid the diagnosis. The sugar and protein are checked and a culture is usually done. Has the doc said he is doing it because of diabetes? Or does the person simply happen to be diabetic? Need more info. Spinal taps are done for anumber of reasons. To check the spinal fluid for blood, infection, protein, pressure, etc. It is a minor procedure. It is mortified, but the area is numbed with a local anesthetic. There is a lot of pressure. Afterwards, it is major to lie flat for several hours to prevent a spinal leak. (Bastard of a headache!). Best of luck!
